We Have Finally Arrived!!

This Internet connection is SOOO slow!!!!!! There are a couple of problems with the Internet.
1. There is a really bad Internet connection because many people use it
2. The power goes out A LOT!

Yesterday the power was off all in the afternoon. So since the power on the computer was down we needed to plug the power cord in. So the laptop wasn’t working. Now the power is back on so we can use the cold shower (BRRRRRRR), use tap water that you can’t drink and put the light on when it is pitch black outside. Today will be our second full day at New Hope. The first thing I thought when I got off the plane was, ”Wow it is so warm and humid!” Most people said it was a cool day but it was nice and HOT.

Of course I should probably stop talking about the weather but just say that it is very hot and humid. It has rained every day we have been here but it has been light rain.

When we arrived we went to Garden City which is a mall with a supermarket, bank, food court, computer store, cell phone store, shoe store, and a couple other things. The thing that was kind of weird was that there were guards by the bank with guns strapped to their backs! They stared at us and you just feel like ducking your head. We ate there and headed off to the Kasana Children's Center (New Hope). The ride was quite bumpy and there were a couple things I noticed
1. Most Ugandans on bodas (motorbikes) don't wear helmets.
2. There are no traffic lights so everyone goes at the same time.
3. Everyone crosses the street when they want to if you wait you will never get across!

When we got to New Hope, applied our sunscreen, and went outside we met our tour guides, 2 girls ages 7 and 5. They gave us all the precautions and warnings and showed us around. We met quite a few of the missionary kids and their parents. We also talked to some of the Uganda kids. They have an accent that is sometimes hard to know what they are saying. Yesterday we were having an orientation about New Hope and there was a missionary family doing it and they have 2 little Ugandan boys which they have adopted. One of them came to my dad and Christina and sat down with them. When the presntation was over he came to me and wanted to be picked up. So I picked him up and we ran around chasing after John. He laughed all the time. Then the rest of the gang went off and we had to babysit him. He was really cute and he is a very good drawer for someone 3 years old. Here is a picture of him.

We work in the morning doing school and then in the afternoon we can play during the afternoon since that is what the missionary kids do. Here you call all your elders Auntie and Uncle so for my parents they would be Auntie Cathie and Uncle David to all the kids.

I tried to play soccer with the Ugandan kids but they are way to good. I probably could probably only play with kids half my age for it to be equal.
