Last Saturday we went to our current sponser child who lives in Kiwoko with his mom, grandma, and 8 or 9 siblings. Some of them are at school or work so they aren't always home. They live in a small hut that is (in the book Breadwinner for those who have read it) smaller than Parvanas house. They had a space outside where they cook, eat, play and it is swept perfectly clean! They took us to the gardens which are filled with sweet potatos, cassava, maise and probably some other things. A man who is a pastor at the church in Kiwoko has given the family land to use to grow enough food for themselves and some extra to sell. They also have a black pig that is very impatient about getting his supper. They loved their presents. To our sponser child we gave a football and to the rest we gave toothbrushes and toothpaste. Their grandma looked at us funny with a look that said," I only have a couple teeth what use would a toothbrush be?!" It was very good to see him finally after writing letters to him. We were very glad to meet most of his family and get to know S. and his brothers and sisters.
