…be prepared to…
1. have the bus arrive 30 minutes after the appointed meeting time.
2. listen to a 20 minute debate amongst various passengers about who will sit where.
3. end up with 3 teenagers and 2 adults squished in the back of the bus on a four seat row.
4. stop at least twice on the way where everyone empties out of the bus to use the latrine/buy their snacks, and then piles back in.
5. arrive at the place where you think the burial is supposed, and be told that it is really 18 more miles away…and after 18 miles, 7 more miles…and after that being told to follow a road until you get there.
6. be called muzungu and stared at.
7. walk through masses of people to find the people you want to see.
8. as they are burying watch a friend and her dad, stand together, crying, missing their mom and , jajja.
9. go and hug your friend as she rests her head on your shoulder and cries because of the lost loved one.
10. eat a lunch of matokke, beans, and rice.
11. spend time with your friends, laugh and encourage.
12. get back in the van for an extremely bumpy, dusty, neck jolting ride back home.
13. listen to the beautiful singing of Luganda songs to the God of the universe!
14. Realize that #1-8 and 12 are worth it for #9, 11 and 13 because even through the hardest times we trust that God will be with us even though we may walk through the valley of the shadow of death because He is with us and comforts us.
Thanks Catriona, that's a vivid and moving description of your experience, praying for your friend and her family. X
