Delays, Delays and more Delays

In Uganda things are done quite slowly there is no rush to get things done. There is no need to get places on time and if you make a meeting the same day you aren’t late at all. Well, that can be rather frustrating for the westerner when you are waiting a long amount of time for one person to show up. Getting to Uganda this year was quite a challenge. First we found out that our plane from London flying to Calgary was late so our flight would be delayed by one hour. We later found out that it was delayed because of engine trouble. We went through security and boarded successfully but when it was time to take off things weren’t as good. We found out that the starting engine on the plane wasn’t working and that it would be a while before we took off. The little while turned out to be six hours and then they sent us home. We, because of all our bags, needed 2 mini-van taxis! We went home and slept and woke up with not a lot to do since everything was packed. Then at 8:00pm we went to check in our bags for the second time in 2 days. We were also rescheduled for a flight to Nairobi, Kenya and then from there to Entebbe, Uganda. We had a 4 hour layover in London so we should be able to make our flight. Of course this was the theory. We spent a super long long time waiting in line to check our bags in and when they were checked went through security and then went to where we were going to board. One of the British Airways people came out and said that there would be a delay because they just got the part in. People came storming to the desk and then finally got settled down. We ended up getting on our plane and heading to London 4 hours later. So we had missed our second connection flight to Nairobi. So the people at the flight connections desk put us on the flight that we originally wanted to get on for our second option- the direct flight to Entebbe except just 2 days late. So we stayed in a really nice hotel (with TV’s in the bathrooms!!) and slept until 11 o’clock the next morning. We ate lunch and began to check in our bags. Only that was another problem. Since so many people had been on our profile our whole system got messed up and instead of saying that we could take 3 bags each it said we could only take 1. We did get all our bags here but it was quite a bother. We saw a team also going to New Hope on our same flight so we got to talk with them a little bit.
Finally we have arrived and are safetly here. We are staying in a house right now that is on the primary site but soon after the team finishs painting a house on secondary we are moving there.
