Our Heathen Pet
On Sunday we went to visit our sponsor child in the village we arrived at about 4:30 (after leaving at 4) and when we arrived there we saw their new house and lots of family members and an 80 year old grandmother. It was great to see them all again. They gave us a snack or meal of milk with 3 tablespoons of sugar and bread to eat. They gave us HUGE portions no matter what. We asked for smaller parts but they didn't mind what we said. We showed them our A is for Africa book and then handed out some small gifts for them. At about the end of our time our sponsor child presented us with a chicken. That is a very special gift and they told us specifically that it was for eating. Tomorrow we are going to eat it. We were going to close with prayer and so we all joined hands with Dad holding the chicken. All he said was Heavenly Father and then to everyones surprise the chicken started squawking and flew out of my dads hand. Since his legs were tied together he couldn't go very far. We all burst out laughing! It was SO funny! One of the girls in our family group was translating for us so she decided that she would hold the chicken instead of my dad. When we were walking home we decide that our chicken was heathen. The family mother of our family group is keeping the chicken overnight and one of the boys is killing it tomorrow. Please pray for this family and for the grandmother of the girl that was translating today because she is sick from a parasite and it 87 I think. Pictures will follow!
