Right as 2015 began in Uganda, we were at our friends house, banging pots and pans welcoming the New Year. We then went in and drank sparkling juice and took some over to one of our friends who had been spending New Years at home. We visited in the dark on her porch for a half an hour and heard the people in Kabubu have their celebration...they celebrated the start of 2015 about 10 minutes late (based on the computer) you know, African Time. After a visit on the porch we headed home and went to sleep.
On New Years Day morning we slept in and ate breakfast at around 10:30. By that point in time, we felt that the day was already half done and that we had lost a lot of time...which was true!
We declared a holiday from school (HALLELUJAH!) and two of Christina and my friends came over. We watched a movie that we had been planning to watch since Septemberish and just hadn't gotten to.
They stayed for lunch and at 3, Christina and I went to Hope Family for the afternoon. We went on a walk with the kids. At five we came back home with a visitor for my mom and they visited while we had 10-15 kids making braclets and watching Sound of Music, as well as John and a bunch of his friends sitting out on our porch soaking their feet.
A little after 5 one of my friends came over and stopped by for a few minutes and after she left the chaos, our dinner guest arrived.
The phone rang and the person on the other side asked if we could have an extra person join us for dinner-sure the more the merrier.
But first I had to find him so I took off on my bike and caught up to him.
Then I hurried back and began putting together our salads for dinner...
At sixish, our house emptied and it was quiet again and we had a nice dinner with our two guests...we had salad supper (many different salads like potato salad, pasta salad, cabbage salad...) and Jello for dessert. We laughed a lot and had fun welcoming our friends back!
After they left we all headed to bed, as we were tired from the night before...and another day began....
What a full day, but busy with friends! sounds a fine way to spend the first day of 2015.
